I can't really see people spending btc on anything trivial. People on alt life style IG accounts talk about buying fruit in the marketplace for btc and paying their rent etc...but unless your earning BTC at a constant rate, why would you use something like gold to buy goods and services? Wouldn't you be losing the possible appreciation of btc by spending it?

Yeah I have but at the very beginning when I got into bitcoin. I sold $2000ish of profit and used it to buy an iPhone and a wallet and thought I was so smart and rich. I quickly realized from consuming more bitcoin info and seeing how the price moved, that I’m better off just saving in it, rather trying to trade & time short term crazy moves,and spending my dollars I earn instead. And correct about my parents, I haven’t made an extreme lifestyle or expense upgrade other than maybe more quality food. If anything bitcoin has made me a much more conscious spender and saver. If it wasn’t for bitcoin in my life, I know I would have gave into the lifestyle inflation creep psyop ( finance car, mortgage nice home, cool IG trips, designer clothes) you know that type. I mean I still enjoy life and have had fun, but I’m always thinking hmmm should I do that or do I really need that? Usually I don’t, so I stack more sats hahaha

Each step is taken and achieved before moving to the next one. Coming from a BTC enthusiast here, this is entirely your prerogative but I personally think you're playing it very risky here. I have some suggestions for you. You can buy an ETF like VTI. Or if you have some extra cash, you can get a total stock market index fund with low fees like VTSAX on Vanguard (or other equivalents from Fidelity, etc.). Personally, the bulk of my investments are in "boring" and "safer" things like index funds. If you buy specifically into a total stock market index fund like VTSAX (or its ETF equivalent VTI), you're essentially purchasing small pieces of every public company on the stock market. That is diversification at its finest. Diversification is key. You can't justify buying other things due to lack of info? The real problem is that you shouldn't justify pooling all of your money into one basket. That's a lot of risk. If an emergency happens that necessitates liquidating your BTC but at the same time BTC crashes unexpectedly, what are you gonna do? It is much safer to diversify your holdings. Also, it worries me to hear you say that all of your savings are in BTC. That's not exactly the most liquid scenario because you'd have to sell the BTC first to get cash (unless if you directly use BTC at places that accept it as payment ofc). It might be better to have some cash in a high yield savings account (or a regular savings account) with at least 3-6 months' worth of expenses stashed away. Then, you only touch this when emergencies come up. Lastly, it's important to know some basic personal finance to help inform your saving and investing decisions. A good starting point is free finance resources, like @personalfinanceclub or @basicfinancialliteracy on IG.

Because YT, FB, and IG do not actually care about people scamming since many of the underpaid contractors are eager to accept bribes by black hat marketers to run scams. Yeah I can’t say for sure what the legality side is. But plenty of game companies forbid trading IG items for real world currency. Everyone who is buying and selling items for the majority of games that I’m aware of, is doing so in violation of the ToS of the game. Which could be how they indemnify themselves of any wrong doing. The problem I see with blockchain based games is if they offer a path to converting your IG assets to real currency via the chain that the game operates. That’s where I think we start to enter a legal gray area.

I worked at a public interest firm that represented indigent or close-to-indigent clients in administrative law cases and the only agency that throws its weight around with a level of gratuitous entitlement is, well, DHS. Except DHS has guns and detention facilities and it's easy, if not justifiable, to see why they get away with a lot of things congress should exercise oversight over - since the PATRIOT Act they're essentially a paramilitary agency that operates mostly outside of the justice system with little oversight. The SEC, on the other hand, is less about outright menace but has more of a Wall Street on the Potomac vibe. It's not a secret that their relationship with Wall Street is somewhere between chummy and incestuous and have simply brushed off adverse decisions from circuit courts and the Supreme Court year after year. I don't know why they deserve any sort of benefit of doubt, not in 1976, not now. But administrative law practitioners and in house counsel saying 'fuck the SEC' is hardly a rare sentiment to be heard at happy hours in DC and NYC at certain drinking establishments, and not just because we have an adversarial system but because some agencies take their mandate more seriously than others and the SEC is certainly not among them. I don't think one should be necessarily excited to invest in a target of SEC's actions, but as long as it's not a bank, it's... not exactly dispositive of anything in terms of merits to their complaint. I don't know what you think the poster above you deserves exactly, but the SEC certainly would be expecting a response in that vein as well. It's kind of how business is done with them. It'd be weird to simply roll over on a regulator that nobody, not even their own IG, can claim to assiduously play by the rules - rules that they made and enforce themselves by the way, based on their reading of century old black letter law and amendments designed to be vague so that the agency can fill in the gaps as they see fit. This is pretty much just how they operate and the response is pretty much as expected.

There are some platforms, not necessarily crypto ones, where you can get play money to do pretend trades with. Some of them also offer crypto. Maybe etoro or IG, I forget now. Why not sanction the DEA since they are the actual cause of the opioid epidemic. I consider them murderers. All of them. I lost something like 30-40 friends thanks to their fucked up nonsensical enforcement actions. They are also active participants in helping the cartels launder money, as noted in DOJ's own IG reports, without congressional approval, which was required by black letter law. Very true, I can do the reading when needed, but if I’m on the hunt for specific into, the video route is easier. Than we remember a lot of younger people are joining us, and they have the attention spans of a goldfish thanks to TikTok and IG Reels 😂

I was just thinking about something, since we're so early in SoFi (social finance) and earning for using a platform, what does the future look like if no one wants to use any platform if they don't offer some type of monetary incentive? Why post on FB, IG, etc when you can post on Reddit (or some other platform) and earn money? Will it incentivize other platforms to follow suit, or will people just migrate to the ones that do pay and ditch the ones that don't?

This is half the reason I dont use many social media apps, IG is just a swamp of scammers for example, best to avoid. Can't believe people put so many personal details on there.
